As luck would have it, we met a wonderful woman last year who was involved with Mountain Friends Camp, a Quaker group that offers camping for teens from throughout the southwest.  They were looking for a new location for their camp program and fell in love with the ranch and all that we have to offer.  After several meetings with our respective boards it became clear that we had a common vision and before long we were moving forward with plans for the inaugural camping season.  We already had our kitchen and dining facilities in place - all we needed were sleeping quarters and a bath house.  Yurts were the obvious choice for the bunk houses, while a more traditional structure was built for the bathrooms.  Canoes and a pedal boat added to the lake activities, while the soccer field and other open areas provided plenty of opportunities for games and recreation.  Not surprising, the favorite pastime was hiking in the mountains, exploring new areas and learning more about the plants and animals that share their environment with us humans.

We hope to host additional groups in the coming years, particularly those that serve children with disabilities.

One of the highlights for most children is a chance to spend time at summer camp.  This is even more important for children with disabilities.  As we looked around at all the wonderful things the ranch has to offer, it was clear that someday we would have a summer camping program.  The only issue was how to take on such a major endeavor without detracting from our core residential program.
